ON THE JOB ACTIONS
Use Good Structure
Choose an area of your work or a situation where you need to do organise effectively. Read and/or watch Managing Information Effectively for good techniques to clarify why you need to do something and what specifically it involves. List and analyse your tasks and ensure that you know the answers to ‘what, why, how, and who.’
Develop a checking system for email, voicemail etc. Carry a notebook to write down all work requests and tasks under simple headings as ‘next actions’ (emails/ calls/ named projects). Do NOT write things on different bits of paper. Maintain a diary with reminders only for things you want to do that specific day or information you need on that day. Set aside a certain amount of time each week for thinking and planning and use it.
