ON THE JOB ACTIONS
Process

Read and/or watch How can I develop? Creating a Development Plan. Follow the logical steps in the process. You must choose a solution that you can commit to.

Methods
Consider the different learning styles described in How People Learn. Choose a solution that suits you and make sure that you include practice and review. The best way is to include all the styles, even if one is least preferred. Start with one you like.

Involvement
Encourage team members to get involved in anticipating their learning needs and setting their own learning objectives. Work with them to create their own development plan, giving advice on appropriate development methods.

Support
Appoint buddies/coaches/mentors for some or all members of staff. Ask them to read Coaching and Mentoring for tips.

Be prepared to grow
Read Growth Mindset for tips on how to encourage an attitude for fast and effective development and recognise if your mindset is ‘fixed’; not helpful for successful development.

Read Stretching Yourself for an understanding about how your brain approaches this, and tips on how to do it.
